3 Claims.
This invention relates to a wheeled toy and more particularly to a doll stroller.
The primary object of the invention is to afford entertainment and amusement for children.
Another object is to simulate in a toy wheeled vehicle the various parts and elements entering into a full sized stroller of the type commonly employed in the transportation and airing of infants and young children.

Referring to the drawings in detail the running gear of this toy comprises a pair of substantially U-shaped frames designated generally I 8 and I 2, each comprising a bight portion respectively I4 and I6 to opposite ends of which are connected the legs I8 and 2D which are riveted together as at 22 intermediate their upper and lower ends. A suitable axle 24 extends between the legs of each frame IU and I2, and mounted at opposite ends of the axles 24 are ground contacting wheels 2E which may be equipped with rubber tires 28. The upper ends of the legs I8 and im support a seat frame designated generally 38, and as illustrated in the drawings the legs I8 extend upwardly beyond their connection with the seat frame to form couplings for the handle of the toy as will be more fully hereinafter explained.
The seat frame previously referred to comprises a U-shaped frame member formed of a 7i bight portion 32 having formed integral therewith a pair of spaced parallel forwardly extending arms 34, and riveted or otherwise connected as at 36 to the ends of the side bars 34 remote from the bight portion 32 is a cross bar 38 forming the supporting bar for the foot rest designated generally 40. This foot rest comprises a pair of spaced parallel side bars 42 which are riveted to the cross bar 38 adjacent opposite ends thereof and which are joined at their ends remote from the cross bar 38 by a cross bar 44. As shown the side bars 42 are curved in the form of U-bends, to form a trough-like body for the reception of the feet of the doll occupying the seat of the stroller. of the foot rest is adjustable about the axis of the rivets 36.
Extending upwardly from opposite sides of the seat frame 38 are side frames designated generally 46 each of which comprises a standard I48 It will be understood that the frame which is xed to a side bar 34 of the seat frame 3G adjacent the bight portion 32 thereof, and extends upwardly substantially perpendicular to the seat frame 38. An upwardly and forwardly extending bar 50 is riveted to the outer side of each side bar 34 of the seat frame 30, and the upper ends of the bars 50 and standards 48 are coupled by longitudinally extending top rails 52 which incline downwardly and forwardly toward the forward end of the stroller.
A top frame designated generally 54 comprises an inverted U-shaped member formed of a horizontally extending bight portion 5S having at opposite ends downwardly extending spaced parallel legs 58 the ends of which remote from the bight portion 55 are riveted or otherwise rigidly connected to the side bars 52 intermediate their ends as at 88. Bows 62 are each riveted or otherwise attached at one end to the bight portion 56 adjacent the legs 5s and the opposite ends of the bows 62 are bent downwardly and fixed in any suitable manner to the upper ends of the standards 48. A cross bar 64 joins the lower ends of the bows 62 in order to hold the upper rear ends of the side frames 46 in spaced parallel relation.
Extending transversely between the lower ends of the standards 48 is a pivot bar 88 to which a back rest designated generally 68 is coupled for movement through a vertical arc. This back rest 68 comprises a cross bar 'IU provided adjacent opposite ends with perpendicularly extending bars l2, the lower ends of which are looped about the pivot bar 66 to form a pivotal support for the back rest 68. A slat 'I4 is fixed to the cross bar 'Ill intermediate its ends, and the lower end of the slat like the side bars 'I2 is pivotally coupled to the pivot bar 66, so that the frame or back` rest 88 may swing in a vertical arc about the axis of the pivot bar 86. Pivotally coupled to the rivets are the opposite ends of -a U-shaped bail 18, the bight 'portion I8 of which extends around the rear side of the back rest 68 in order to limit its rearward swinging movement about the pivot 66.
Pivotally coupled as at 88 adjacent the ends remote from the bight portion thereof are the legs 82 of an inverted U-shaped frame forming the handle designated generally 84 by which the stroller may be pushed. As shown the legs 82 of the handle 24 are provided adjacent their lower ends with angular extensions 86 so that when the handle is in use the major portions of the legs 82 will incline upwardly and rearwardly at a sharper angle than the upward and rearward inclination of the side bars i8 of the frame I8. Adjacent the bight portion of the handle 84, the legs 82 thereof are provided with extensions 88 which are inclined rearwardly at an angle more nearly approaching the horizontal. In order to hold the handle 84 in extended position while the stroller is in use suitable bolts 90 are extended through the extensions 86 adjacent their extreme ends, and these bolts are provided with wing nuts d2, so that they may be readily disconnected to permit the handle 84 to be fol-dod over the outside oi the stroller as suggested by the dotted lines in Figure 4. Likewise the pivotal connection 35 of the foot rest 20 will permit the foot rest to be moved into substantially the dotted line position illustrated in Figure 4 in order to reduce the space occupied by the toy to a minimum for storage and transportation.
Seated on the upper edges of the side and end bars forming the frame 3u is a seat panel 94, and extending over the side bars 34 of the frame 3f! and the vupper -side of the seat panel is a cover 96 of a suitable exible material. This cover is provided adjacent its forward end with an apron 98 which as illustrated in Figure 3 is adapted to hang down into the trough formed by the foot rest. The back rest frame B8 is enclosed in a cover |50 preferably of the same material from which the `cover 96 is formed, and extending over the side frames 46 are envelopes H32 formed of a suitable flexible covering material preferably of the same color and quality as that enclosing the seat panel and back rest. A hood or top mi issupported over the seat of the toy on the frame iid as illustrated in Figure 1, and in its preferred form `the envelopes H12A are equipped with suitable cross straps H36 joined by a buckle i638 which extends across the front of the stroller to serve as a retaining strap for a doll occupying the stroller. A suitable envelope H93 encloses the frame 4Q forming the foot rest and this envelope isv provided at opposite sides with side panels l I2. The envelope HU and side panels H2 are preferably formed of the same material with which the rest cf the body of the stroller is covered. j
In use it will be seen that by adjusting the position o-f the bail 15, the angle at which the back rest 68 is held may be varied to suit the desire of the user. When it is desired to place the toy in service, the handle 84 is swung about its pivot from the dotted line position illustrated in Figure 4 to the position illustrated in full lines therein and the bolts 95 are passed through mating openings in the extension at the upper ends of the arms I8 of the frame l), and the angular extensions 86 on the arms 82 of the frame B4, after which the wing nuts 92 are threaded onto the bolts to lock the parts in extended position. The foot rest t8 is then swung from the dotted line position illustrated in Figure 4 to the full line position illustrated therein and the toy may then be wheeled by a, child and will simulate in appearance a conventional stroller. When it is desired to reduce the size of the device for transportation or storage it is obvious that a foot rest may be swung into the dotted line position illustrated in Figure 4, and by removing the bolts 90, the handle 84 may likewise be swung about the axis of its pivots 80 into the dotted line position illustrated in Figure 4.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted tol without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Havingdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new is:
y1. A wheeled toy which includes a -pair of U-shaped supporting frames the legs of one of which cross those of the other, said legs being joined at their intersections, an axle extending transversely of each supporting frame adjacent the bight portion thereof, wheels on the axles, a rectangular seat frame fixed to the legs of the supporting frames adjacent the ends thereof remote from the bight portions and an inverted U-shaped handle pivotally coupled to the legs of one of the supporting frames, a side frame extending upwardly from each side of the seat frame and a back extending upwardly from the end of the seat frame adjacent the handle, an inverted U-shaped top frame the lower ends of the legs of which are secured to the side frames intermediate the forward and rear ends thereof, and bows connecting the bightportion of the top frame with the upper rear corners of the side frames.

A wheeled toy which includes a pair of U-shaped supporting frames the legs of one of which cross those of the other, said legs ybeing joined at their intersections, an axle extending transversely of each supporting frame adjacent the bight portion thereof, wheels-on the axles, a rectangular seat frame xed to the legs of the sup-porting frames adjacent the ends thereof remote from the bight portions and in inverted U-shaped handle pivotally coupled to the legs of one of the supporting frames, a side frame vextending upwardly from each side of' the seat frame and a back rest pivotally supported adjacent the end of the seat frame, saidback rest being adapted to swing in a vertical arc above the seat frame and a bail pivoted `to the side frames adjacent their upper edges and 'intermediate their ends, said bail extendingI around the back rest to limit its rearward movement about its pivot.

A wheeled toy 4which includes a pair of U-shaped supporting vvframes the legs of one of which cross, those ofthe other, said legs being joined at their intersections, an axle extending transversely `of each supporting frame adjacent the bight portion thereof, wheels on the axles, a rectangular seat frame xed to they legs of the supporting frames adjacent theends thereof rerxnote from the bight portions and an inverted U-shaped handle pivotally-coupled to the legs of one of the supporting frames, a side frame extending upwardly from each side of the seat frame and a back extending upwardly from the end of the seat frame adjacent the handle, an inverted U-shaped top frame the lower ends of the legs of which are secured to the side frames intermediate the forwa-rd and rear ends thereof, and bows connecting the -bight portion of the top frame with the upper rear corners of the sideu frames and a U--shaped bail having the ends of its legs remote fromthe-big'ht portion thereof pivoted to thev side frames at their junctions with the top frame and said bail extending around the rear side lof the back restlto l-mit the rearward movement. l
